Professor Zhongdang Pan
Before returning to UW-Madison (where I got my Ph.D.
in 1990) to join the faculty of Communication Arts, I taught and
conducted research in several other universities, including Cornell
University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Chinese University
of Hong Kong. In 2000-2001, I was a Visiting Associate Professor
at the University of Michigan. My research interests have focused
on the mass media and their effects in politics and various aspects
of civic life, in both the US and China. I have conducted research
on framing and priming in public opinion formation, political talk
and participation, third-person effects, journalistic professionalism,
and media changes in China. My research has led me to employ various
quantitative and qualitative methods, including surveys, experiments,
textual analysis, in-depth interviews.
